SHIVAGO.ORG OFFERING GRANT FOR 2009
Dear friends,
Happy new year! We hope that everyone’s holiday season was happy, peaceful, and safe. It is 2009, and that means a new year for the annual Shivago grant competition.
The intent of the Shivago Fund is to give something back to the people who have shared their healing wisdom with us. This is a charitable fund supported by instructors, practitioners, and schools of traditional Southeast Asian medicine. We are a group of like-minded teachers who are dedicated to the practice, education, and preservation of the healing arts of traditional Asian societies (ie. Thai, Lao, Burmese, etc.). It is our strong belief that those Westerners making a living from these traditions of medicine have a moral responsibility to give back through charity to indigenous people in gratitude for sharing their wisdom with us. We therefore have initiated the Shivago Fund as a vehicle for charitable activities. Named after the Father Doctor Shivago Komarpaj, particularly revered in Buddhist societies for his knowledge of pediatrics, 100% of this fund goes to specific charitable projects recommended by the Thai massage/medicine practitioner community.
We accept two types of proposals: either nominations on behalf of organizations who should receive donations from our organization, or grant proposals from individuals who have an idea for a charitable project. We are currently accepting proposals for next year. See the grant application and more information here: http://www.shivago.org/shivago-fund.html
If you have a great idea for a project in Thailand that combines learning with cultural exchange and/or charity, please consider putting in an application for yourself, or if you know of an individual or organization doing such projects you can submit a proposal on someone else’s behalf. We will begin judging applications on Jan 31, and winners will be announced shortly afterwards.
Thanks for your support and participation!
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Shivago Fund, may you be well,
Pierce Salguero
